Law Enforcement News Resources

PoliceOne – Providing coverage of breaking news, expert analysis of law enforcement topics, career opportunities, product research, grant assistance, and online training and learning, PoliceOne is an online resource for law enforcement.

Police Chief Magazine – Filled with articles “authored by professionals in the field or law enforcement officers,” this magazine has timely news and research. It is the official publication of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

Police: The Law Enforcement Magazine – The magazine and website contain news, articles, product reviews and an active online forum hosting discussions.

Officer.com – Another resource for law enforcement news from around the country. Includes information about training and jobs and has online forums ranging from local to federal topics.

Law Enforcement Technology/Product Resources

Law Enforcement Technology (LET) Magazine – “The magazine is written with the law enforcement manager in mind and concentrates on emerging trends and technological advances being made in the field of law enforcement as well as focuses on companies that provide leading product categories such as computers & software, uniforms & body armor, communications, vehicles, weaponry, forensics, training, tactical equipment, and video imaging products.”

Law Enforcement Product News (LEPN) – “Law Enforcement Product News (LEPN) is considered the most thorough product magazine in the industry because of its efforts to keep the reader consistently informed and updated on products ranging from high-tech equipment to tactical gear and everything in between. In addition, LEPN provides updates on the latest in tradeshows, industry websites, law enforcement events, training and news within the industry.”

Law Enforcement Government Resources 

Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) – “The Bureau of Justice Statistics’ Law Enforcement Unit maintains more than a dozen national data collections, covering federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and special topics in law enforcement.” All of that information can be found here.

Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) – A component of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), COPS is responsible for “advancing the practice of community policing by the nation’s state, local, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies through information and grant resources.”

The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) – The OJP “provides innovative leadership to federal, state, local, and tribal justice systems, by disseminating state-of-the-art knowledge and practices across America, and providing grants for the implementation of these crime-fighting strategies.”

 

Professional Associations for Law Enforcement

Whether you are a Sheriff, Deputy, Police Chief or an Officer, there are several associations and/or organization websites for you. These sites are filled with the latest news, research and job openings, include signups for training or events.

International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) – “The world’s largest and most influential professional association for police leaders.”

National Sheriffs’ Association – “A professional association dedicated to serving the Office of Sheriff and its affiliates through law enforcement education and training, and through the provision of general law enforcement informational resources.”

Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) – “The world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers.”

The United States Deputy Sheriffs’ Association – “A national organization dedicated to officer survival training of the men and women in law enforcement.”

The National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) – NAPO is a “coalition of police unions and associations from across the U.S. and was organized for the purpose of advancing the interests of America’s law enforcement through legislative advocacy, political action, and education.”

 

Other Law Enforcement Resources

Praetorian Digital – A leading learning and content platform for local government and public safety, their goal is “to use SaaS technology and digital content to revolutionize the way in which first responders and local government serve and protect our communities.”

Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) – PERF is a “police research and policy organization and provider of management services, technical assistance, and executive-level education to support law enforcement agencies.”
