Getac Video Solutions was formed when a leader in the rugged hardware industry paired with a leader in the software digital evidence management systems industry. That partnership gave way to a company with more than 45 years of joint experience that produces end-to-end hardware and software solutions for law enforcement, including body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, interview room cameras and the Getac Enterprise. Each of these solutions collects a substantial amount of data and video. To store and manage that data, Getac Video partners with several industry leaders to provide a complete solution for law enforcement agencies everywhere.
Getac Video joined forces with Microsoft to help police departments manage and cost-effectively store their video and data.
Microsoft Azure Government, a government only cloud solution that is Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliant, with physical and logical isolation at all layers, including robust metadata management and analysis tools.
Microsoft Windows 10 is a browser-based asset management system, which allows users to securely view, tag and share evidence while also providing real-time live video streams, vehicle locations and crime maps.
Combined, Azure and Windows 10 allow agencies to upload digital assets from Getac body worn cameras, Zero Dark HD in-car cameras or other evidence management solutions and ultimately browse and share classified information via a secure internet browser.
“When a crime happens, the video data is there immediately for police officers to see,” says Tom Guzik, President of Getac Video. “Traditionally, a police car would record video footage, and the video wouldn’t be synced with the department’s servers until the car returns to the station, which may not be in the same day. But now, with the Cloud, the data hits the cloud in real time, so officers have more efficiency and productivity.”
Together, Getac Video and Microsoft, have created an evidence management platform that supports petabytes of data while cutting infrastructure costs.
The Charleston Police Department has seen the benefits of the partnership between Getac Video and Microsoft. They are required to store all video recorded, 24 hours a day, for a minimum of 14 days.
“That’s a lot of data,” said Tony Elder, Former Deputy Chief of the Charleston Police Department, “but we can support those needs with the Azure Government cloud’s scalability. Getac Video and Azure Government have given us what we needed, and it makes sense for us to move as many resources as we can to the cloud.”
When the Charleston Police Department moved their data to the cloud, they were able to increase reliability while reducing the load on the city’s infrastructure.
“Our systems require reliability and enough bandwidth for things like remote viewing capabilities and we can better support that now,” he said.
Using Getac Video and Microsoft has also streamlined communication for Charleston officers.
“Simplified management has also streamlined our ability to share information and data with those who need it, when they need it, without having to go through the process of asking our IT department to make a bunch of changes,” said Elder.

Thirty years ago, Getac Technology Corporation, Getac Video’s parent company revolutionized the industry with their robust, rugged computers. Those computers’ processors are powered by Intel®. Building on Getac’s multi-decade relationship with Intel, Getac Video has continued that partnership, leveraging Intel’s processors in the Getac Video VR-X20 DVR.
The Getac Video VR-X20 DVR is one of the only solutions on the market that has a Windows base using Intel® chips as a DVR, according to Kaleb McDaniel, Lead Solutions Architect (SA) for Getac Video. The processing speed and efficiency of the 8th Gen Intel® Core™ set Getac Video apart.
In Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, the Sheriff’s Office is using Getac Video’s DVR with the Intel® Core™ Processor as a gateway to merge video and data from multiple sources before transferring to the server for storage. The Intel® processors easily integrate with existing technologies to streamline the process.
